Job summary

A leading automotive recruitment consultancy is seeking a Lab Technician to assess components and carry out quality control for Battery and Frame Assembly. The ideal candidate will have experience with metallurgical testing, interpret engineering drawings, and possess a level 3 qualification in a relevant field. This role requires hands-on work with testing equipment and a strong understanding of materials. Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK and able to travel within the country.

Qualifications

• Experience using metallurgical and mechanical prep and test equipment.
• Ability to conduct quality control testing for EDU, Battery, and Frame Assembly.
• Experience in performing visual weld inspection testing.

Responsibilities

• Assess components using metallurgical and mechanical test equipment.
• Carry out routine quality control testing.
• Perform teardowns of components using destructive equipment.

I am currently recruiting on behalf of an automotive OEM, based in Wolverhampton, who are looking for a Lab Technician to join their team.

Job Description

As Lab Technician, your main responsibilities will include:

• Use metallurgical & mechanical prep & test equipment, to assess components
• Carry out routine quality control testing for EDU, Battery and Frame Assembly
• Perform teardowns of stators and frames, using destructive equipment, e.g. Bandsaws.
• Perform visual weld inspection testing and ultrasonic testing of spot welds.
• Use optical microscopes to measure welds, rivets and porosity content.

Qualifications/Skills needed

• Materials testing equipment (optical microscopes, hardness, tensile, composition).
• Metallurgical knowledge of steel and aluminium, and experience in applying.
• Able to interpret Engineering drawings and Specifications.
• Minimum level 3 qualification in a relevant engineering, science or welding field.
• Welding (pref.)
