Temp-to-Perm (3 months initial contract)
£14.36 per hour / £28,000 per annum equivalent
Are you a skilled laboratory technician with a passion for environmental science and sustainability?
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join a leading environmental operations team. This role involves essential testing, analysis, and monitoring work, supporting regulatory excellence and sustainability across water, wastewater, and waste solids.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out a range of chemical, biological, and physical testing on environmental samples (e.g., wastewater, AD sludges, compost, incinerator residues).
Perform in-house anaerobic digestion (AD) testing (pH, ammonia, solids, FOS/TAC, VFAs) and boiler chemistry testing (pH, conductivity, silica, chlorine levels, etc.) for thermal treatment.
Interpret results, escalate any out-of-range findings, and liaise with Compliance and Operations teams.
Manage calibration and maintenance of lab equipment.
Organise and report on both internal and external lab analyses.
Ensure compliance with ISO 17025, COSHH, and Duty of Care requirements.
Support internal audits, quality assurance, and operator training on sampling and lab practices.
Monitor consumables and maintain stock levels.
Requirements
Qualifications
Degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, Environmental Science, or related field.
NVQ Level 4 in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities (desirable).
Skills & Experience
Solid experience in laboratory testing within environmental, waste, or industrial settings.
Strong knowledge of lab procedures and compliance frameworks (ISO 17025 desirable).
Skilled in technical report writing and maintaining accurate lab records.
Competent with lab equipment calibration and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Immediate start preferred as the current postholder is exiting at the end of May.
