Job description

We are currently looking to hire a Laboratory Technician to join our team in Harrogate.

This is an exciting entry level role with an opportunity to join a growing team with leading training and development!

If you have a passion for science, have excellent attention to details with the ability mange fast paced work loads accurately then this could be the role for you.

As part of the Global Immunology and Immunotoxicology (I&I) department, the Laboratory Technician provides support to Safety Assessment (SA), and standalone studies over a wide range of Immunology and Immunotoxicology platforms, supporting enhanced solutions based approach to Clients requests.

A Laboratory Technician is responsible for technical duties and provides support to the all Laboratory Scientists.

After training you will have specific scientific responsibilities which include participating in all support procedures in the operational areas of I&I. These include instrument calibration, sample preparation, tracking, receiving items into the lab and general Laboratory support duties.

  • Performs and documents equipment maintenance.
  • Documents work and maintains study documentation and laboratory records.
  • Provides input and participates in project meetings
  • Contributes towards a cohesive team environment.
  • Maintains a clean and safe laboratory work environment.
  • Maintains awareness and compliance with all safety directives and safety procedures in accordance with the regulations
  • Plans individual workload according to priority of tasks.
  • Communicate discrepancies to appropriate personnel.
  • Learns to solve problems independently, contacting senior staff and managers for clarification as needed.
  • Communicates confirmation of delivered items within the lab.
  • Support key personnel for sample analysis and relevant paperwork.
  • Responsible for entry and accuracy of data and sample and reagent tracking documentation.
  • Seeks to help develop improvement ideas for the group, with senior personnel or Management.
  • Learns to assist in the archive processes.
  • Certified as an authorized system monitor and out of hours responder, as appropriate.

Able to work in a team as well as independently.

Ability to work under pressure and timelines.

Ability to take up challenges.

Organizational skills.

Excellent customer service skills including attention to detail, accuracy, confidentiality, and effective communication skills.

Education

  • Completion of High school- / A level / GCSE or equivalent qualifications

Working Conditions

  • May work with potentially hazardous substances.
  • Overtime and weekend work as required.
  • Mandatory immunizations and screening may be required.
  • Work requires use of PPE (personal protective equipment).
  • Physical requirements include, but not are limited to, standing, bending, reaching and lifting.
  • May work in walk-in cold and/or warm storage units.
  • Must be able to lift approximately 35 lbs. for short periods of time.
