Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare laboratory media, buffers, reagents and solutions.
• Manage laboratory consumables, stock and glassware requirements.
• Conduct routine performance checks on balances, pH meters and equipment.
• Support microbiology and laboratory teams with day-to-day operations.
• Manage laboratory waste streams and support environmental compliance.
• Maintain records in line with GMP and Data Integrity.
• Coordinate contractor visits, equipment servicing and preventive maintenance.
• Help ensure laboratories remain inspection-ready, safe and compliant.

Job description

You'll be involved in a wide variety of laboratory activities including:
Preparing laboratory media, buffers, reagents and solutions
Managing laboratory consumables, stock and glassware requirements
Conducting routine performance checks on balances, pH meters and laboratory equipment
Supporting microbiology and laboratory teams with day-to-day operational requirements
Managing laboratory waste streams and supporting environmental compliance
Maintaining accurate records and documentation in line with GMP and Data Integrity requirements
Coordinating contractor visits, equipment servicing and preventive maintenance activities
Helping ensure laboratories remain inspection-ready, safe and compliant at all times

Job Overview

As a Laboratory Support Assistant, you'll play a vital role supporting microbiology and scientific teams by ensuring laboratories are fully stocked, equipment checks are completed, waste streams are managed, media and reagents are prepared, and laboratory operations run smoothly every day. This is far more than a support role. It is an opportunity to gain valuable experience within a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical environment and develop an understanding of how medicines are researched, developed and manufactured.

Essential

• A-Level, Scottish Higher or equivalent qualification in a scientific subject
• Strong organisational and time-management skills

• Basic Microsoft Office skills

Bonus Skills (Not Essential)

• Previous laboratory experience
• Knowledge of GMP, GxP or pharmaceutical environments
• Understanding of laboratory chemicals and COSHH
• Experience working with stock management systems
