Job summary

UKRI International is seeking an Animal Technician to provide husbandry for laboratory mice at the Babraham Research Campus. You will care for mice in IVCs, observe welfare, maintain cages and records, and work closely with scientific staff under SOPs while ensuring Home Office compliance.

The role includes occasional overtime and travel within a UKRI context. Applicants should have experience in animal care, strong record-keeping skills, and a proactive approach to welfare and hygiene.

Qualifications

• Essential: Interest in obtaining IAT Level 2 Diploma in Laboratory Animal Science & Technology or equivalent
• Desirable: GCSEs or equivalent; IAT Level 2 Diploma or equivalent; Level 2 or 3 Animal Care qualification; Relevant scientific degree

Responsibilities

• Daily care and maintenance of research mice in individually ventilated cages
• Daily welfare observations and reporting abnormalities
• Maintain hygiene and environment in cages and rooms
• Ensure access to food, water and enrichment for mice
• Maintain records using electronic and written methods
• Work with scientific staff and follow SOPs
• Ensure compliance with Home Office regulations
