Job summary

UKRI's MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) invites applications for a Technician in the Biological Services Group at the Babraham Research Campus. You will provide daily husbandry for laboratory mice in individually ventilated cages, maintaining high welfare and accurate records in line with SOPs.

The role requires teamwork, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to animal care, with opportunities for overtime work on weekends paid according to UKRI-MRC rates.

Qualifications

• Essential: An interest in obtaining IAT Level 2 Diploma in Laboratory Animal Science & Technology or equivalent
• Desirable: GCSEs or equivalent
• Institute of Animal Technology (IAT) Level 2 Diploma in Laboratory Animal Science & Technology or equivalent
• Level 2 or 3 Animal Care qualification
• Relevant scientific degree

Responsibilities

• Daily care and maintenance of research mice within individually ventilated caging systems (IVCs).
• Daily welfare observations and reporting abnormalities.
• Regular observations of cage cleanliness and changing cage bases.
• Ensure access to food, water and environmental enrichment.
• Maintain hygiene of animal rooms (dusting, vacuuming, mopping).
• Liaise with scientific staff responsible for the animals.
• Work to SOPs and Home Office compliance.
• Maintain detailed records using electronic and written methods.

Education

IAT Level 2 Diploma in Laboratory Animal Science & Technology or equivalent

GCSEs or equivalent

Institute of Animal Technology (IAT) Level 2 Diploma in Laboratory Animal Science & Technology or equivalent

Level 2 or 3 Animal Care qualification

Relevant scientific degree
