Job Opportunity: Lab Technician (Temp to Perm)

A client based in Worcester (WR4) is seeking a Lab Technician on a Temp to Perm basis.

Role Overview: Support production, testing, and characterization of metallic alloys. Responsibilities include preparing alloys using in-house metallurgical equipment, operating equipment, and creating reports on findings.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Operate microstructural sample preparation and characterization equipment, including chemical analysis and particle size measurements.
2. Maintain and calibrate sample preparation and characterization equipment.
3. Communicate with engineers to understand their needs.
4. Write reports on metallurgical investigations.

Candidate Requirements:

• Strong attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Good IT skills, especially MS Office.
• Adaptable and flexible.
• Qualification in materials science, preferably metallurgy.
• Previous experience in a similar role.
• Experience with sample preparation (cutting, polishing, etching, microscopy).
• Experience examining metallurgical samples, including image analysis.
• Knowledge of particle size analysis and chemical analysis techniques.
• Understanding of different alloy systems, including nickel super alloys, titanium, and aluminum.
• Knowledge of alloy heat treatment.
• Understanding of mechanical testing methods such as creep, tension, hardness, and toughness.

This role offers 37.5 hours per week, with flexible working hours, and a salary up to £30,000.
