Job summary

University of Southampton’s Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Facility seeks a Laboratory Manager/Technical Expert to lead day-to-day operations, oversee Open Access Service delivery and support instrumentation (LC-MS, SFC-MS, GC-MS).

You will work in a small team within the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, applying specialised skills, managing short- and medium-term projects, and upholding health and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Dynamic, enthusiastic team player with strong technical expertise in chromatography and mass spectrometry.
• Experience of managing a facility or laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Open Access Service delivery and day-to-day management of the facility.
• Lead and deliver short- and medium-term projects and work assignments.
• Manage technical practices and service provisions for LC-MS, SFC-MS and GC-MS instruments.
• Provide specialist advice and guidance on analytical LC-MS, SFC-MS, GC-MS instruments to staff and students.
• Ensure health and safety and operational excellence in line with university priorities.
