Job summary

Multus Biotechnology in the United Kingdom seeks a Lab Automation Engineer to place automation at the heart of our science. You will help expand our automated capabilities for large-scale datasets powering ML models, collaborating with scientists and engineers to deliver reliable, reproducible pipelines.

You’ll design orchestration layers, write drivers for instruments, and improve workflows end-to-end from sample handling to data handoff, while ensuring robust error handling and logging in a

Qualifications

• Proven experience building automation systems for scientific labs.
• Strong Python skills and production-quality software experience.
• Experience writing software drivers or instrument integrations.
• Familiarity with lab orchestration frameworks or equivalents.
• Hardware-fluent to diagnose software/instrument issues.
• Experience designing automated end-to-end workflows from handling to data analysis.
• Comfortable working in a lab environment with scientists.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement the orchestration layer coordinating instruments and robotics.
• Write and maintain drivers and API integrations for scientific instruments.
• Automate workflows integrating robotics, control, and real-time data analysis.
• Leverage open-source lab orchestration tools to fit our instrument suite.
• Collaborate with biologists and ML researchers to translate protocols into pipelines.
• Maintain reliability of automated workflows with error handling and logging.
• Evaluate and integrate new instruments and robotic systems as capabilities grow.
