Job summary

The Ellison Institute of Technology is seeking a highly capable Autonomous Laboratory Scientist to join our Oxford-area lab. The role focuses on running and refining wet-lab workflows while integrating automation platforms and ML-informed approaches to experimental design.

You will translate scientific objectives into reproducible, automation-ready protocols, read and implement literature, and collaborate with automation engineers and AI researchers to elevate our AutoLabs program.

Qualifications

• PhD in a STEM discipline or equivalent industry experience.
• Hands-on wet-lab experience with bench work.
• Ability to independently execute and troubleshoot workflows.
• Experience translating goals into reproducible lab protocols.
• Strong attention to experimental quality and detail.
• Curiosity across science domains beyond biology.
• Can-do, build-it-yourself attitude in a fast-evolving lab.

Responsibilities

• Execute, optimize and design wet-lab workflows.
• Translate objectives into structured, reproducible protocols.
• Read literature and perform or troubleshoot published protocols.
• Operate and support laboratory automation platforms (liquid handling).
• Contribute to design, development and maintenance of the automation platform.
• Collaborate with automation engineers, AI researchers and scientific teams.
• Maintain rigorous documentation, QC and biosafety compliance.
