Description

At Carey Group, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We're proud of our reputation as a trusted, socially responsible construction company and we're passionate about creating opportunities for our people to learn, develop and thrive.

As we continue to invest in our people and capability, we're looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Learning & Development Specialist to join our team on an 18-month fixed-term contract.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering and enhancing learning programmes that make a real difference across our business. From supporting aspiring leaders through our Black Hat Development Programme, to helping develop our future talent and technical specialists, you'll be instrumental in creating engaging learning experiences that build skills, confidence and performance.
If you're passionate about learning, enjoy building strong relationships, and thrive in a fast-paced, operational environment, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Role

Working closely with the L&D Manager, operational leaders and subject matter experts, you'll support the design, coordination, delivery and continuous improvement of learning initiatives across the business.

You'll have the opportunity to work across a diverse range of programmes and projects while helping us embed new learning technologies, including the implementation and adoption of our Learning Management System (LMS).

This role offers a fantastic mix of learning design, facilitation, stakeholder engagement, programme coordination and project support.

What you will be doing:

Designing Engaging Learning Experiences

  • Supporting the design, development and continuous enhancement of learning solutions aligned to business needs
  • Updating and improving existing management, leadership and operational development programmes
  • Working with operational experts to convert technical knowledge into engaging and practical learning experiences
  • Producing high-quality learning materials, facilitator guides and learner resources

Facilitating Learning

  • Delivering behavioural, leadership and management development programmes both face-to-face and virtually
  • Creating inclusive and engaging learning environments that encourage participation and knowledge sharing
  • Adapting your style to suit different audiences across operational, engineering and commercial functions

Coordinating programmes and projects

  • Managing learning logistics, communications and programme administration
  • Supporting learning systems, reporting and processes to ensure smooth programme delivery
  • Contributing to the successful implementation, adoption and continuous improvement of learning technologies, including our LMS
  • Maintaining accurate learning records and management information

Partnering with managers and operational colleagues to understand development needs:

  • Providing advice and guidance on learning and development solutions
  • Supporting training needs analysis and identifying opportunities to build capability across the organisation

Measuring Impact

  • Monitoring learner feedback and programme outcomes
  • Supporting the development of meaningful L&D metrics and reporting
  • Sharing insights and best practice to continually improve our learning offer

What Success Looks Like:

  • High-quality learning materials and resources developed and delivered
  • Successful learning programmes with strong attendance, engagement and feedback
  • Positive support and partnership across operational regions and business functions
  • Effective contribution to LMS implementation and learner adoption
  • Flexible support to the wider L&D team during periods of increased demand
About You:

We're looking for someone who brings energy, curiosity and a proactive mindset.

You'll be comfortable working independently, building relationships quickly and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. You'll also enjoy working closely with operational teams and translating business needs into practical, engaging learning solutions.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience in a Learning & Development, Training or Talent Development role
  • Experience within construction or a similar fast-paced, operational environment such as logistics, transport, engineering, aviation or infrastructure
  • Strong facilitation skills with experience delivering workshops both in person and virtually
  • Experience designing and developing learning content and resources
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Experience supporting or implementing learning technologies or Learning Management Systems
  • A good understanding of adult learning principles and learner engagement
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • High levels of proficiency across Microsoft Office and digital learning platforms
  • A recognised training qualification, such as the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent), would be advantageous.

Hybrid Work Pattern

Our story starts in 1969 with three brothers and a van.
John, Tom and Pat Carey moved to London from Ireland and started a groundworks contracting company in London called PJ Carey Plant Hire (Oval) Ltd.
Their aspirations at the time were reflective of the values of the Carey Group today – to care about everything they did, to act with humility in all interactions, to be passionate about their work and be authentic at all times.
The Carey Group remains a family-owned construction business, operating across the UK and Ireland. Their goal at the time was to grow to around 50 operatives and provide quality, safe work so that they and their employees could provide for their families and get safe home every day. Through hard work and sticking to their values and their word, this was certainly achieved….and some.
Throughout the years, we have remained committed to delivering on our promises, respecting our clients, offering innovative solutions and producing the highest-quality work in safe environments. These are the core principles set by our Founders, the ones we have never wavered from and they help us to fulfil our ultimate vision to be the most trusted and socially responsible construction company, that people are proud to work with.
Our strong approach is underpinned by robust financial management, continuous investment in our people, specialist equipment and strategic assets and our long-standing culture of teamwork – we want to create the very best environments for our people.
We care about our people and our partners and how we work with them, ensuring we do our best by them. Ultimately, we care about our impact on the world around us and the communities that we proudly help to shape.
