Job summary

Vision for Education is seeking an English Teacher to join a welcoming secondary school from January 2027. This full-time, long-term fixed-term role covers KS3 and KS4 and focuses on developing pupils' reading, writing and communication skills.

The successful candidate will deliver engaging English lessons, assess progress and contribute to school improvement. QTS or equivalent is required, and experience with GCSE preparation is preferred.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• Experience teaching English at secondary level, ideally across both KS3 and KS4.
• Strong subject knowledge and the ability to deliver engaging and effective lessons.
• Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to establish positive relationships with pupils.
• A commitment to inclusive teaching, differentiation and supporting pupils of all abilities.
• Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
• A proactive, flexible and professional approach to teaching and learning.
• A commitment to safeguarding, pupil welfare and promoting a safe learning environment.
• Applications from Early Career Teachers (ECTs) with relevant experience and a passion for English are welcome.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, high-quality English lessons to pupils across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
• Teach a broad and balanced English curriculum, supporting pupils in developing their literacy, analytical and communication skills.
• Prepare pupils for GCSE English Language and English Literature examinations, where appropriate.
• Differentiate lessons effectively to meet the needs of pupils with a range of abilities, backgrounds and learning needs.
• Assess, monitor and record pupil progress, providing constructive feedback to support continued development.
• Create a positive, inclusive and well-managed classroom environment where pupils feel confident, motivated and ready to learn.
• Maintain high expectations for pupil behaviour, achievement and engagement.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, support staff and the wider school community to promote positive outcomes for all pupils.
• Contribute to the wider life of the school and uphold its policies, values and safeguarding procedures.
