Job summary

The Mercian Trust is seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant – KS3 (HLTA) to join our team in Walsall. You will plan, prepare and deliver learning activities for individuals and small groups under a qualified teacher’s direction, supporting KS3 students and those working below age-related expectations.

Teamwork is essential as you will monitor progress, provide feedback, and contribute to safeguarding, pastoral support and school-wide initiatives.

Qualifications

  • HLTA status, Level 4 qualification, or equivalent experience in higher-level classroom support.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy; good English and maths.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching strategies for varied levels.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Proficient ICT use to support teaching and learning.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver learning activities for individuals and groups.
  • Support KS3 teaching and adapt activities to pupils working below age-related expectations.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teachers.
  • Promote inclusion and positive relationships with pupils, parents and staff.
  • Assist with behaviour management and classroom safety in line with policy.
  • Contribute to pastoral support and liaison with parents/carers.
