Job summary

Envision Education is recruiting a KS2 Teaching Assistant for a mainstream primary with a specialist SEN unit. The role is full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:00pm. You will support two KS2 pupils with SEMH in Years 4 and 5, providing emotional and academic assistance throughout the school day.

Ideal candidates have SEMH/SEN experience and a creative/art background. Enhanced DBS on Update Service or willingness to obtain one is required. Strong communication is essential.

  • Excellent communication and behaviour management skills.
  • Creative or art background is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support to two KS2 pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Support Year 5 pupil on Mondays and Fridays; Year 4 pupil Tue–Thu.
  • Deliver academic and emotional support throughout the day.
  • Build positive, consistent relationships to help pupils feel safe.
  • Help pupils manage and regulate emotions and behaviour.
  • Encourage confidence, independence and positive behaviour.
  • Adapt activities to meet individual needs and interests.
  • Use creative approaches to boost engagement.
  • Collaborate with class teachers and SEN team for consistency.
  • Monitor progress and report to staff.

Job Description

Envision Education is currently recruiting for a KS2 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school with a specialist SEN unit. This is a full‑time role working Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:00pm.

The successful candidate will work closely with two pupils in Years 4 and 5 who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing both emotional and academic support throughout the school day.

You will support a Year 5 pupil on Mondays and Fridays and a Year 4 pupil on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Both pupils require someone who can build a positive and trusting relationship with them, support emotional regulation and help them remain engaged with their learning.

One of the pupils is particularly creative and enjoys art, so candidates with an artistic or creative background would be especially well suited to the role and encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 support to two KS2 pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Support the Year 5 pupil on Mondays and Fridays and the Year 4 pupil from Tuesday to Thursday.
  • Provide both academic and emotional support throughout the school day.

  • Help pupils manage and regulate their emotions.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, confidence and independence.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs and interests.
  • Use creative activities and approaches to encourage engagement where appropriate.
  • Work closely with class teachers and the SEN team to provide consistent support.
  • Monitor pupils' progress and communicate relevant information to teaching staff.
  • Follow safeguarding, behaviour and school policies at all times.
Days and Hours of Work
  • Monday to Friday
  • 8:30am - 4:00pm
  • Full‑time
  • Year 5 support - Monday and Friday
  • Year 4 support - Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Experience, Training and Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs in any year group would be particularly beneficial.
  • Experience within a primary school or similar educational setting is desirable.
  • A creative or art background would be advantageous.
  • Patient, nurturing and understanding approach to supporting children.
  • Ability to build strong and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Good communication and behaviour management skills.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
