Job description

Key Stage 2 (KS2) Primary Teacher - Bury St Edmunds & Surrounding Areas

Are you an inspiring, enthusiastic Key Stage 2 Primary Teacher looking for a better work-life balance or aiming to build strong connections with schools across West Suffolk? Whether you are seeking the total freedom and flexibility of day-to-day cover, or looking for the rewarding continuity and class ownership of a long-term placement, we have fantastic opportunities tailored to your schedule.

We are currently partnering with a welcoming network of primary schools and academies in Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding areas. We are experiencing high demand for engaging QTS primary specialists to teach across Years 3, 4, 5, and 6.

Whether you are an experienced KS2 Primary Teacher looking to step back from full-time responsibilities, a subject-confident educator open to flexible supply, or an Early Career Teacher (ECT) looking to gain broad experience and build relationships across local schools, we can help you find your ideal setup.

Choose Your Ideal Way of Working:
  • Day-to-Day Cover: Enjoy complete control over your working week with total flexibility. Choose the exact days you want to work to perfectly balance your personal commitments, family life, or hobbies while exploring different primary settings in Bury St Edmunds.

  • Long-Term Opportunities: For those seeking routine and the chance to build strong, supportive relationships with children, colleagues, and parents, we offer fixed-term placements spanning a term or a full academic year. These roles allow you to embed yourself fully within a school community, lead a class team, and drive student progress over time.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver high-quality, engaging lessons across Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6) that inspire curiosity, foster independence, and raise standards in literacy, numeracy, and core curriculum subjects.

  • Create a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment using effective behaviour management strategies in line with individual school policies.

  • Differentiate learning resources and activities to support pupils with diverse learning needs, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or high prior attainment.

  • Leave clear, constructive handover notes for regular class teachers when fulfilling day-to-day cover assignments.

  • For long-term roles: take on full teaching responsibilities, including planning, assessment, tracking pupil progress against National Curriculum targets, attending department meetings, and participating in parents' evenings as required.

What We Look For:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (or recognised UK teaching qualification).

  • Strong curriculum knowledge across Key Stage 2, with a clear understanding of KS2 SATs expectations and upper primary development.

  • Confident classroom management skills and an adaptable, proactive approach.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport quickly with staff and pupils.

  • A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for one).

Benefits of Working With Us:
  • Competitive daily rates of pay, processed weekly and reflective of your experience level and role commitments.

  • A dedicated local consultant with deep knowledge of the primary education sector in Bury St Edmunds and West Suffolk.

  • Complete flexibility to set and update your availability on your own terms.

  • Direct networking opportunities with top local primary schools, frequently leading to direct contract and permanent offers.
