Job summary

Engage Education in partnership with a welcoming primary school in East Leeds is seeking a KS2 SEN Teaching Assistant to provide one-to-one support for pupils in Year 3 and Year 5. The role is full-time, Monday to Friday, term time only, with a long-term temporary arrangement and ASAP start.

You will support children with Autism and additional behavioural needs, helping them access learning, manage emotions and build positive relationships within the classroom.

Qualifications

• Have previous experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
• Ideally experience working with children with Autism.
• Comfortable supporting pupils with challenging behaviours.
• Understanding of behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
• Calm, patient, resilient and consistent in approach.
• Able to build positive relationships while maintaining boundaries.
• Experience in mainstream primary or SEN settings is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated one-to-one support to pupils in Year 3 and Year 5.
• Support children with Autism and associated behavioural needs.
• Help pupils access the curriculum and engage with classroom activities.
• Implement appropriate behaviour management strategies to encourage positive behaviour.
• Support pupils with emotional regulation, transitions and managing challenging situations.
• Adapt activities to meet individual learning and behavioural needs.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and encourage confidence and independence.
• Work closely with class teachers, the SENCO and wider support staff to ensure consistent support.
• Follow individual support plans and agreed behaviour management strategies.
• Encourage positive social interaction and inclusion within the classroom.
• Provide feedback to teachers on pupil engagement, progress and concerns.
