Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of assessment, pupil progress and attainment.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and ambitious Primary Teacher to take on an Interim Phase Leader position within a supportive and forward-thinking primary school from September 2026.

This is a fantastic leadership opportunity for an experienced teacher looking to take the next step in their career and play a key role in improving teaching, learning, and pupil outcomes across an assigned phase.

The successful candidate will become an important member of the Senior Leadership Team, working closely with the Headteacher and other leaders to drive improvement and ensure the school's vision and expectations are embedded across the phase.

The Role

As Interim Phase Leader, you will have responsibility for leading teaching and learning across an assigned phase, alongside teaching your own class.

You will monitor the quality of teaching through learning walks, observations, book monitoring, and pupil voice, while using pupil outcomes and agreed KPIs to identify priorities and drive improvement.

You will also lead phase meetings, contribute to staff development, support performance management, and work closely with the Inclusion Manager and SENDCo to ensure all groups of pupils make strong progress.

The role also includes leadership of the Literacy curriculum and acting as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL).

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead teaching and learning across an assigned primary phase
  • Monitor teaching through observations, learning walks, book scrutiny, and pupil voice
  • Track pupil progress and be accountable for outcomes across the phase
  • Lead phase meetings and contribute to Senior Leadership Team meetings
  • Support and develop teachers through CPD and 1:1 professional development
  • Set challenging targets and monitor progress against agreed KPIs
  • Lead on the Literacy curriculum and monitor pupil outcomes
  • Work closely with the SENDCo and Inclusion Manager to promote progress for all pupils
  • Line manage teaching staff within the assigned phase
  • Support Early Career Teachers as a professional tutor when required
  • Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience teaching as a qualified Primary Teacher
  • Strong understanding of effective teaching and learning
  • Experience leading a curriculum area is desirable
  • Experience teaching across at least two primary phases is desirable
  • Experience supporting colleagues to improve teaching and learning
  • Previous Senior Leadership Team experience is desirable
  • Strong understanding of assessment, pupil progress, and attainment
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to motivate and develop a team
