Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking qualified QTS and HLTA tutors based in the Chester-Le-Street area to provide 1:1 and small group tuition in English and Maths for students across KS2-KS4.

You will support students with SEN and SEMH needs, helping them to build confidence, re-engage with learning, and reintegrate into a school setting. Location Peterlee, October 2026 start, temporary contract.

Qualifications

• QTS, QTLS or HLTA qualifications are required.
• Minimum 6 months+ experience working in a UK school.
• Right to Work in the UK and DBS checks / references.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group tuition in English and Maths.
• Support SEN and SEMH needs to help students re-engage with learning.

Peterlee - KS2 - KS4 (English and Maths)

Prospero Teaching is looking for qualified QTS and HLTA tutors based in the Chester-Le-Street area to provide 1:1 and small group tuition in English and Maths for students across KS2-KS4.

As a Prospero tutor, you will deliver tailored tuition sessions designed to meet the individual needs of each learner. You'll support students with a range of SEN and SEMH needs, helping them to build confidence, re-engage with learning, and, where appropriate, successfully reintegrate into a school setting.

Many of the students we support have experienced significant disruptions to their education, ranging from a few weeks to several years. Every student has a unique learning journey and requires a personalised approach. Your skills, experience, and ability to adapt your teaching will play a vital role in helping each learner overcome barriers, achieve their goals, and reach their full potential.

POSITION DETAILS

• Location - Peterlee (within the community or students' home)
• Position - Tutor
• Start date -October 2026
• Duration / Likely Duration - Until the student finds a suitable school placement
• End date (if applicable) - Ongoing
• Contract type - Temporary
• Full time/part time - Part time and full time depending on your availability
• Rate of pay - up to GBP 30 per hour
• Hours - Working hours can differentiate, up to 15 hours per week, per student

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS

• QTS, QTLS or HLTA qualifications
• 6 months+ experience working in a UK school

• Hold Right to Work in the UK
• Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
• Provide two professional child related references that cover the last two years
