Job summary

Milk Education in Gateshead is seeking a Year 2 Teaching Assistant to support literacy, numeracy and wider curriculum activities. You will assist with small groups and one-to-one support, helping create an engaging classroom and positive learning atmosphere.

The role requires recent experience with primary-aged children (KS1), a TA qualification, and a proactive, team-oriented approach while safeguarding pupils. Applicants should live locally to Gateshead; relocation is not required.

Qualifications

• Recent experience working with primary-aged children, ideally within Key Stage 1.
• A teaching assistant qualification.
• A positive, patient, and proactive approach to supporting learning.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
• Must live locally to Gateshead—no relocation.

Responsibilities

• Support the class teacher in delivering engaging and effective lessons.
• Provide one-to-one and small group support where required.
• Assist pupils with literacy, numeracy, and wider curriculum activities.
• Help prepare learning resources and maintain an organised classroom environment.
• Encourage positive behaviour and engagement with learning.
• Support pupils' social, emotional, and academic development.
• Build positive relationships with pupils to promote confidence and independence.
• Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and parents where appropriate.
• Support assessment activities and monitor pupil progress.
• Follow safeguarding procedures and school policies at all times.
• Contribute positively to the wider school community.
