Job summary

Bob and Berts in Lisburn is seeking a reliable Kitchen Porter to support our busy coffee shop team. You will maintain cleanliness, assist chefs and baristas, and ensure clean crockery and sanitary areas behind the scenes to keep service running smoothly and warmly for customers.

Key duties include dishwashing, kitchen hygiene, basic prep support, waste and stock management, and adherence to health and safety standards. Right to work in the UK is required.

Qualifications

• Punctual and reliable with a proven attendance record.
• Able to stand long periods, in a warm environment, and lift heavy items.
• Team worker with a positive attitude.
• Fast and efficient under lunchtime and weekend rushes.
• Experience as Kitchen Porter or cafe/hospitality is a plus, training provided.
• Right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Dishwashing: Operate the industrial dishwasher, wash pots, pans, plates and cutlery, dry and restock quickly.
• Kitchen Hygiene: Clean and sanitise work surfaces, walls, floors, and food prep areas before, during, and after shifts.
• Support: Assist with basic food prep, such as washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables or fruit when needed.
• Waste Management: Empty kitchen bins and sort waste into recycling/disposal areas.
• Stock Management: Receive deliveries, check accuracy, and organise stockroom and walk-in fridges.
• Safety Adherence: Follow health, safety, and hygiene regulations including COSHH standards.
• General Cleaning: Maintain cafe seating area, staff rooms, or public restrooms when requested.

Job Type:Full-time - 30 hours incl. weekends

Hours you can actually plan around: Monday to Friday shifts finish by 6.30pm, and weekend shifts finish by 6.30pm— no late-night kitchen closes. - These Hours are subject to change due to seasonal/event demand

As a Kitchen Porter, you are the backbone of our kitchen and play an important customer-facing role by providing excellent, friendly customer service as a key point of contact for customers. You will be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and organisation behind the scenes, supporting our chefs and baristas by ensuring clean crockery is always available, the kitchen is sanitary, and food waste is managed properly. This is a crucial role that helps ensure our service runs smoothly and every customer has a welcoming experience.

Customer Service:Providing excellent, friendly customer service at all times, as Kitchen Porters are a key point of contact for customers and should help create a welcoming experience.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• General Cleaning:Assisting with maintaining the cleanliness of the cafe seating area, staff rooms, or public restrooms if requested.

Requirements

• Reliability:Proven record of punctuality and reliability.
• Physical Stamina:Ability to stand for long periods, work in a warm environment, and lift heavy items (e.g., crates of deliveries).
• Team Player:Positive attitude and the ability to work well as part of a close-knit team.
• Speed & Efficiency:Capable of working quickly under pressure during busy lunchtime or weekend rushes.
• Experience:Previous experience as a Kitchen Porter or in a cafe/hospitality setting is a plus but not essential—we will provide training.
