Job summary

PGG in Shropshire is seeking a Kitchen Gardener to manage glasshouses and the walled garden, producing fruit, vegetables and cut flowers for the owners and visitors.

You will join an existing team, work with the estate owners, and contribute to high standards of presentation, with some weekend work during the open season.

Accommodation is provided: a four-bedroom house adjacent to the kitchen garden; salary good and experience-based; PA certificates advantageous.

Qualifications

• Experience as Kitchen Gardener or Gardener with glasshouse and propagation skills.
• Willingness to work weekends during open season.
• PA1/PA6 Knapsack Spraying Certificate advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day running of glasshouses and the walled garden.

Kitchen Gardener

Full time - Live-in Position - Shropshire

A great opportunity has arisen for an experienced Kitchen Gardener/ Gardener with glasshouse and propagation skills to work within a Shropshire Estate.

The garden is open to the public in the spring and summer and we expect around 20,000 visitors. The successful candidate will join an existing team and will work closely with the estate owners.

This permanent position involves the production of fruit, vegetables, cut flowers and for use by the owners and others.

The role

This is a full-time permanent position joining a friendly team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the glasshouses and walled garden under the general supervision of the Head Gardener.

Reliability and self-motivation are important. The successful applicant will be required to enhance what already exists, increase productivity, and maintain the high standards of presentation for the enjoyment of the family and visitors.

The candidate will join an existing team and work with them with seasonal tasks in the extensive pleasure gardens. Some weekend work is also required.

A PA1 and PA6 Knapsack Spraying Certificate is advantageous.

The package & applications

This is a live-in position; accommodation is a 4-bedroom house adjacent to the kitchen garden. Candidate to pay own utilities. Families and pets’ welcome.

Salary: Good salary dependent on experience.

Hours of Working: Monday-Friday, 39 hours per week, with occasional weekend work required during the open season.
