Job summary

The Burford Recruitment Company Ltd is seeking an Estate Gardener for a private Gloucestershire estate. The role is full-time, live-out, with hours Mon-Fri 8am-4pm, on a beautiful private country estate. You will maintain lawns, borders, and planted areas, grow cut flowers for the household, and help develop wildflower meadows and woodland gardens.

Training is provided in a friendly team setting. A RHS Level 2 is advantageous; PA1/PA6 and chainsaw certificates would be beneficial, though

Qualifications

• Experience in private estate or large garden environments.
• Practical horticultural knowledge and enthusiasm for outdoor work.
• Willingness to learn and work well in a small team.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining lawns, borders and planted areas to a high standard.
• Weeding, pruning, mulching, mowing and edging; hedge cutting and seasonal planting.
• Growing cut flowers, fruit and vegetables for the household; supporting meadow and woodland areas.

Job description

Estate Gardener, Private Estate.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm

Job type: Full-time, permanent, live-out

A lovely opportunity has arisen for a passionate and practical Estate Gardener to join a small, friendly team on a beautiful private country estate in Gloucestershire.

The gardens are wonderfully varied, featuring established lawns, roses and herbaceous borders, alongside a kitchen and cutting garden, orchard and historic water garden. The owners are also developing new natural areas, including wildflower meadows and woodland-style gardens, with a strong focus on biodiversity.

This is a fantastic opportunity for either an experienced Estate Gardener or a recently qualified horticulturist looking to build their knowledge and experience within an inspiring private estate setting. Full training will be provided.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Maintaining lawns, borders and planted areas to a high standard
• Weeding, pruning, mulching, mowing and edging
• Hedge cutting and seasonal planting
• Growing cut flowers, fruit and vegetables for the household
• Supporting the development of wildflower meadows and woodland gardens
• Operating horticultural machinery and equipment
• Assisting with occasional wider estate duties

The ideal candidate will:

• Have previous gardening experience within a private estate, large garden or landscaping environment
• Possess good practical horticultural knowledge
• Be enthusiastic, reliable and willing to learn
• Be physically fit and happy working outdoors throughout the year
• Work well as part of a close-knit and supportive team
• Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to their own transport due to the rural location

An RHS Level 2 qualification and an interest in floristry would be advantageous but are not essential. PA1/PA6, telehandler, digger or CS30/31 chainsaw certificates would also be beneficial, although training can be provided.

Some occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
