Job summary

Routes to Work is seeking a reliable Kitchen Assistant for a care home setting. You will help with food preparation, meal service, and ensuring a clean, safe dining environment for residents. Training is provided, and the role suits someone who enjoys teamwork and attentively supporting daily meals.

Competitive hourly rate, full training, and a flexible pattern of 3 or 5 days per week are available, with a friendly team and a focus on resident wellbeing.

Qualifications

• REHIS Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to obtain one.
• Good understanding of food hygiene and safe working practices.
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Good communication skills and a friendly approach when interacting with residents and colleagues.
• Previous kitchen or catering experience is beneficial but not essential, as full training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Assist with food preparation, including sandwiches and other light meals.
• Support the kitchen team with meal service.
• Serve meals to residents in the dining room using a hot trolley.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness in kitchen and dining areas.
• Carry out washing up and cleaning duties in line with food hygiene standards.
• Follow all food safety and health and safety procedures.
• Assist with stock rotation and general kitchen organisation.
