Job summary

Bupa is seeking a Kitchen Assistant via Bank contract at Richmond Villages Wood Norton in Evesham. The role supports chefs, maintains hygiene, and contributes to safe catering operations in a care home setting.

You’ll work flexible part-time shifts, with paid breaks, in a village that emphasizes independence and quality of life for residents. Prior catering experience and a level 2 food hygiene certificate are beneficial.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Health and Safety practices.
  • Up-to-date CIEH Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate and catering experience beneficial.
  • Experience in care environment and stock management advantageous.
  • Organized, adaptable and able to work in a team or independently.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare simple meals and ancillary items under the Chef's direction.
  • WASH dishes by hand or in the dishwasher and store clean items safely.
  • Sweep and mop kitchen floors to keep them grease-free.
  • Clean work tables, walls and equipment per schedules.
  • Operate kitchen equipment and move items between storage and work areas.
  • Keep the kitchen tidy, secure, and properly stocked; dispose of rubbish.
  • Follow Food Safety and Health and Safety policies and HACCP records.

As a Kitchen Assistant, your role is to assist our Chefs by maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and safety of all catering areas. The kitchen porter serves as the cornerstone of our village's culinary operations, ensuring the seamless functioning of the kitchen.

You’ll help us make health happen by:

  • Preparing simple meals and ancillary items for service under the direction of the Chef
  • Washing dishes by hand or loading the dishwasher, you’ll store clean items neatly and safely to minimise breakages
  • Sweeping and mopping kitchen floors to ensure they’re free from grease or spillage at all times
  • Washing work tables, walls, kitchen equipment and appliances, adhering to cleaning schedules
  • Operating kitchen equipment and transferring this safely between storage and work areas
  • Ensuring the kitchen is kept tidy and left secure, rubbish is removed, and all supplies are put away in the correct place
  • Adhering to company Food Safety and Health and Safety policies at all times, maintaining all records outlined in the HACCP policy
Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role
  • You possess an understanding of Health and Safety, as well as knowledge of maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment.
  • Ideally possessing an up-to-date CIEH Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or equivalent) and prior experience in a catering department or kitchen is beneficial.
  • Ideally, you should have some experience working in a care environment and managing stock, coupled with the ability to prepare simple meals. Being organized and adaptable, you are capable of working effectively within a team and independently.
