Job summary

Richmond Villages Wood Norton in Worcestershire is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support the chefs. You will keep the kitchen clean, safe and organized, prepare simple meals, wash up, and ensure HACCP and health & safety guidelines are followed.

The role offers flexible hours and is ideal for someone who can work well in a team or independently. Candidates with an up-to-date CIEH Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate or equivalent and previous catering or care environment experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Understanding of Health & Safety practices in a kitchen.
• Experience maintaining a clean, safe, hygienic environment.
• CIEH Level 2 Food Hygiene or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare simple meals and items under direction of the Chef.
• Wash dishes by hand or in dishwasher and store items safely.
• Sweep/mop floors and keep surfaces clean and tidy.
• Operate kitchen equipment and transfer items safely.
• Adhere to HACCP and health & safety policies; manage Waste and supplies.

The kitchen porter serves as the cornerstone of our village's culinary operations, ensuring the seamless functioning of the kitchen.You'll help us make health happen by:Preparing simple meals and ancillary items for service under the direction of the ChefWashing dishes by hand or loading the dishwasher, you'll store clean items neatly and safely to minimise breakagesSweeping and mopping kitchen floors to ensure they're free from grease or spillage at all timesWashing work tables, walls, kitchen equipment and appliances, adhering to cleaning schedulesOperating kitchen equipment and transferring this safely between storage and work areasEnsuring the kitchen is kept tidy and left secure, rubbish is removed, and all supplies are put away in the correct placeAdhering to company Food Safety and Health and Safety policies at all times, maintaining all records outlined in the HACCP policyKey Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:You possess an understanding of Health and Safety, as well as knowledge of maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment. Ideally possessing an up-to-date CIEH Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or equivalent) and prior experience in a catering department or kitchen is beneficial. Ideally, you should have some experience working in a care environment and managing stock, coupled with the ability to prepare simple meals.
