Cygnet Oaks in Barnsley is seeking an outstanding Kitchen Assistant who loves food and wants to make a difference. You’ll work 40 hours per week, helping to provide balanced, appetising meals for residents in a mental health rehabilitation setting.

Responsibilities include basic food preparation and cooking tasks, washing dishes, managing stock and deliveries, and maintaining high standards of kitchen hygiene. COSHH regulations govern chemical handling.

Qualifications

• Experience in catering is preferred.
• Passionate about catering with care experience is a plus.
• Enthusiastic, keen to learn and an active team member.
• Polite and professional, with a positive attitude.
• Excellent communicator who can liaise with people at all levels.
• Able to work on own initiative and under supervision.

• Assist the team in providing balanced, appetising meals.
• Perform basic food preparation, cooking tasks and other kitchen duties.
• Wash utensils, dishes and ensure they are stored appropriately.
• Sort, store and distribute ingredients, check deliveries and assist with stock ordering.
• Maintain personal hygiene and ensure the kitchen is clean and hygienic.
• Handle, maintain and store kitchen equipment per procedures.
• Use chemicals in line with COSHH regulations.

We are looking for an outstanding Kitchen Assistant who’s passionate about food and wants to make a difference.

You’ll be working 40 hours at Cygnet Oaks which is mental health rehabilitation service for males over 18yrs old., creating an excellent experience for the people in our care.

Cygnet Oaks is a 35 bed service specialising in high support inpatient rehabilitation (level 2) for men, providing a multi-disciplinary treatment programme designed to assist individuals with their return to independent living.

Depending on the individual’s level of need, at Cygnet Oaks we provide different levels of support in 2 wards, the Lodge and the House;

• Lodge – this is a 20 bed admission ward where most service users will start their recovery journey at Cygnet Oaks. Individuals who are admitted to this ward are generally stepping down from an acute or a low secure service
• House – a 15 bed service for individuals to continue along their care pathway. The House Ward also contains a 4 bed step-through service. This is situated in its own corridor and has a separate living space to prepare and develop individuals towards a community placement whilst still having input from the multi-disciplinary team (MDT).

Your Day-to-Day…

• Maintain personal hygiene and ensure the kitchen is clean & hygienic
• Handle, maintain & store kitchen equipment in accordance with Cygnet procedures
• Use chemicals in line with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations.
