Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced neonatal nurses to develop their leadership skills and experience in a Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge nurse post.

The post holder will have a specific site base at North Manchester, but staff will be required to work across the MCS if service needs require. There are opportunities to undertake a quality role in an area of interest.

High quality, evidenced based care is the hallmark of our service and we pride ourselves in delivering excellent quality of care along with as positive an experience for families as possible. We provide a cutting edge service and this is your opportunity to influence the experience of infants and families by contributing to the leadership of a strong and dedicated workforce, role modelling positive behaviours, supporting the team to deliver the highest standards of safe and effective care. This post is pivotal within the unit nursing structure.

The Neonatal Unit at North Manchester is a Level 2 unit caring for babies from 29 weeks gestation. In addition, we provide critical care and stabilisation for sick newborn and preterm babies of any gestation prior to their transfer to tertiary neonatal services for ongoing critical care.

As a qualified neonatal nurse with proven experience in a neonatal unit, you will also have a mentoring qualification and a high level of clinical expertise. You will be capable of managing your workload and supervising that of others and you will have a flexible approach with strong communication skills. You will have a proactive approach to help drive improvements in the service.

Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is based on the Oxford Road Campus (ORC) and the Local Neonatal Units are based at Wythenshawe and North Manchester General Hospital. There is a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary working and family integrated care is a central element of the unit culture. This spreads across to our sister units at Wythenshawe and North Manchester, designated as local neonatal units providing short term intensive, high dependency and special care to families residing in the local areas.
