Job summary

Hitachi Rail in Newton Aycliffe is seeking aJunior Electrical Engineer to support design, development and validation of electrical systems for railway vehicles. You will work with senior engineers in a multidisciplinary, international environment, gaining experience across electrical design, systems engineering and testing.

You may be a recent graduate or have up to three years of experience, with a degree in Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronics engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics or equivalent technical discipline.
• Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles and schematics.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work in a collaborative team.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• English written and spoken clearly.
• Interest in developing a long-term technical career in rail.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and update electrical schematics for railway vehicles and subassemblies.
• Produce electrical documentation for manufacturing (wiring tables, diagrams, harness drawings).
• Design electrical cabinets, boxes and wiring systems.
• Select and specify electrical and electromechanical components.
• Prepare engineering reports and maintain technical documentation.
• Manage system and component requirements.
• Support electrical integration, testing and troubleshooting activities.
• Participate in design reviews with teams, suppliers, customers.
• Ensure designs comply with standards, customer requirements and processes.
