Job summary

Hitachi Rail UK Limited in Newton Aycliffe is seeking an experienced Manufacturing & Design Integration Engineer to join our on-site team. This role sits at the interface between Design Engineering and Production, ensuring that engineering designs translate effectively into the vehicles we build.

You will work closely with Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Testing, Commissioning, Supply Chain and Project teams to resolve production issues, identify improvements and ensure the finished product

Qualifications

• Significant experience in rolling stock or rail vehicle design.
• Strong understanding of engineering design requirements and translating them into practical solutions.
• Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and providing design improvements.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes and how design impacts producibility and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Act as a key engineering link between Design Engineering and Production, with Quality, Testing, Commissioning, Supply Chain and Project teams.
• Investigate and resolve manufacturing and assembly issues by understanding the design and proposing practical solutions.
• Review engineering drawings and designs to identify issues and opportunities for improvement.
• Support design and build reviews to ensure vehicles are manufactured in line with the approved design.
• Provide timely engineering feedback when differences between design and built product are identified.
• Proactively recommend design improvements that enhance safety, reliability, manufacturability and maintainability.
• Ensure clear design and system information is communicated to all teams.
• Keep stakeholders informed through the project lifecycle from design to production support.
• Support reliability, maintenance and safety activities related to rail vehicle design and production.
