Job summary

National Gas invites applications for the role of Junior Quantity Surveyor to support commercial management across UK infrastructure projects. You will work with project and commercial teams to ensure cost control, contract administration and risk management align with project objectives.

You will develop your commercial expertise while collaborating with project managers, contractors, and stakeholders, contributing to value delivery and safe, efficient project execution.

Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Quantity Surveying or working towards a Quantity Surveying degree or related professional qualification.
  • Knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts (Options A, C and E).
  • Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of supply chain management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the commercial and contractual management of infrastructure projects.
  • Managing commercial activities on allocated contracts while contributing across a wider portfolio.
  • Monitoring project expenditure, validating payment applications, and preparing payment certificates.
  • Supporting risk management activities and maintaining project risk registers alongside project managers.
  • Producing commercial reports, meeting records, and supporting project documentation.
  • Assisting with tender evaluations, supplier engagement, and contract negotiations.
  • Supporting dispute resolution activities through the collation and review of commercial information.

£44,642 to £49,894 + up to 6% bonus

Location: Birmingham

Working pattern: Hybrid, with a minimum of 3 days a week in the office/on site

Travel: When not based at the Birmingham site, regular travel across the Midlands and Wales (West region) will be required

Location requirement: Must be based within reasonable travelling distance of Birmingham

About The Role

Join National Gas Services as a Junior Quantity Surveyor and help deliver infrastructure projects that make a real difference across the UK and Ireland.

Working with experienced project and commercial teams, you'll support the successful delivery of projects through effective cost management, contract administration, risk management, and commercial oversight.

Essential
  • Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Quantity Surveying, or currently working towards a Quantity Surveying degree or equivalent professional qualification
  • Knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts, including Options A, C, and E
  • Strong communication, influencing, and negotiation skills
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of supply chain management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Full UK driving licence
Desirable
  • Utilities sector experience
  • Associate membership of RICS (AssocRICS)
  • Experience supporting contract management activities
  • Understanding of project management, scheduling, and cost control principles
  • Experience supporting tender evaluations and commercial reviews
