Job summary

XACT Placements Ltd. is seeking a Junior Engineer to join a cyber security and network support team in Edinburgh. The role is hybrid with two on-site days weekly and a £39,000 base salary plus benefits.

You will support IT services, help with a live digital transformation, and grow skills in modern security technologies. Ideal candidates have a foundation in cyber security, service desk experience, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Understanding of core cyber security principles such as ZTNA and Remote Access.
• Experience in a service desk or ticket-based environment.
• Strong communication and customer-focused attitude; eager to learn.

Responsibilities

• Triaging service tickets and communicating with end users.
• Prioritising tickets by impact to the business.
• Handling end-user support and technical issues as part of the IT team.
• Managing ticket backlogs and time planning individually and with the team.
• Carrying out Adds/Moves/Changes on production systems with accuracy.
• Building relationships with the customer and colleagues to ensure outcomes.

The Opportunity

Weworking with a growing cyber security specialist that helps public and private sector organisations reduce cyber risk and get more value from their technology. They offer cyber security advice, professional services and managed services, and work closely with leading technology partners.

They're now looking for a Junior Engineer to join an established technical team based at one of their key customers. You'll work as an extension of the customer's IT Service Delivery and Support teams, right in the middle of a live digital transformation programme. It's a great chance to learn modern security technology quickly, on real-world projects.

What You'll Be Doing

• Acting as a triage point for service tickets, and communicating clearly with end users and stakeholders
• Identifying and prioritising tickets by how critical they are and how much they affect the business
• Handling end user support requests and technical issues as part of a central IT delivery team
• Managing ticket backlogs and organising your own time, both on your own and as part of the team
• Carrying out Adds/Moves/Changes on production systems, with close attention to detail
• Building strong relationships with the customer and your colleagues, and delivering service outcomes that are measured and reviewed

What You'll Need

• An understanding of core cyber security principles such as ZTNA and Remote Access
• Hands-on experience with Zscaler (highly desirable)
• Experience in a service desk, support or ticket-based environment
• Strong communication skills and a customer-focused attitude
• Eagerness to learn and pick up new technologies
• Experience with UK public or private sector organisations would help
• A degree or equivalent professional experience is welcome but not essential
