Job summary

Proactive Global is seeking a Junior or Trainee Technician to support the assembly, testing and installation of electro‑mechanical equipment in the workshop and at customer sites after training.

You will work with engineers and technicians, developing hands‑on skills across electrical, mechanical and electro‑mechanical systems. The role offers full training, exposure to robotics, AI and machine vision, and occasional UK/Europe travel.

Qualifications

  • Some practical, technical or engineering experience is desirable, but full training will be provided for the right candidate.
  • A basic understanding of electrical or mechanical principles would be advantageous.
  • Interest in engineering, robotics, automation, manufacturing or electro‑mechanical systems.
  • Comfortable using, or keen to learn how to use, hand tools and basic workshop equipment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work carefully to engineering and quality standards.
  • Basic ability to read technical drawings, diagrams or instructions, or a willingness to learn.
  • A practical, hands‑on approach with good attention to detail.
  • Good problem‑solving skills and an eagerness to learn.
  • Reliable, motivated and willing to develop new technical skills.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A relevant technical qualification, apprenticeship, college course or practical experience would be beneficial, but is not essential.
  • Flexible approach to work, with willingness to support occasional weekend work where required (time off in lieu provided).

Responsibilities

  • Support the electrical assembly, wiring and functional testing of products in the workshop and, following training, at customer sites.
  • Assist with the assembly, testing and installation of electro‑mechanical systems to engineering specifications.
  • Build, inspect and test mechanical and electrical sub‑assemblies under the guidance of experienced team members.
  • Follow assembly instructions, technical drawings and engineering documentation.
  • Learn to route and terminate electrical wiring, cabling, pneumatic tubing and conduit.
  • Use a range of workshop equipment, hand tools and power tools safely and appropriately.
  • Assist with identifying and resolving basic assembly, wiring and mechanical issues, escalating more complex faults to experienced Engineers or Technicians.
  • Provide feedback to the Engineering and Production teams to help improve products and manufacturing processes.
  • Work closely with Engineers, Technicians and Project Managers to support the successful delivery of projects.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment.
  • Develop knowledge and practical skills across the full product build and installation process.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Junior or Trainee Technician to join a rapidly expanding engineering business. You will support the assembly, testing and installation of sophisticated electro‑mechanical equipment, working closely with experienced Engineers, Technicians and Project Managers.

The role would suit someone with a practical and hands‑on approach who is looking to develop their technical skills and build a career within an engineering and manufacturing environment. Full training and support will be provided, with the opportunity to gain experience across electrical, mechanical and electro‑mechanical assembly.

Key Responsibilities
