Overview of the position:

As a supplier to the HM Prison Service for maintenance trades & support operatives, Hays is recruiting multiple qualified trades, including a Trainee Handyman/Person at HM Prison Rochester in Kent.

Purpose of the Maintenance role:

Within the Works Department, you will handle reactive repairs, planned, and preventative maintenance. The role involves participating in refurbishment projects and general day-to-day maintenance, including tasks such as clearing air ducts in cells. The position offers long-term contract potential and opportunities to work in other prisons locally and nationally. Candidates must be local or have their own transport.

Experience:

We are seeking a Trainee Handyperson. The role involves clearing vents within cells and collaborating to identify and fix faults. Prior experience in a prison or public sector is not required. The role demands security consciousness, reliability, consistency, level-headedness, and strong interpersonal skills. Full training will be provided.

Security Clearance:

Applicants must undergo HM Prison Service Security Clearance, which may take up to 4 weeks and include a CRB check. Required documents include a valid passport or birth certificate and photo driving license at your current address. You must also provide two references, one from a previous employer.
