Job summary

Effective Recruitment Solutions Ltd in Kent is recruiting a Junior Estimator to join its construction team. You will support the estimating process, set up estimating files on new enquiries, and carry out take-offs for residential and commercial projects.

This role offers development within a busy environment: some estimating or construction experience is beneficial but not essential. You will assist with tender submissions, liaise with suppliers and subcontractors, price tenders, and maintain

Qualifications

• A good understanding of building and construction.
• Some estimating or construction industry experience, although this is not essential.
• A background within a main contractor or PQS environment would be advantageous.
• Experience carrying out take-offs and/or pricing residential construction projects would be beneficial.
• Experience with residential new-build projects would be advantageous.
• Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
• Experience with estimating or take-off software would be beneficial but is not essential.
• Strong numerical and analytical ability with excellent attention to detail.
• Good organisation and time-management skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to build good working relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, clients and colleagues.
• A practical, hands‑on approach and the ability to work effectively within a small team.
• Relevant estimating or construction qualifications would be advantageous but are not essential.

Responsibilities

• Setting up estimating files upon receipt of new enquiries and maintaining relevant documentation.
• Carrying out take-offs for residential and commercial construction projects.
• Assisting with the preparation of estimates and tender submissions.
• Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors throughout the tender process.
• Obtaining and chasing supplier, subcontractor and manufacturer quotations.
• Maintaining enquiry and quotation registers.
• Supporting the estimating team with pricing and general tender preparation.
• Maintaining accurate electronic and paper records.
• Assisting with internal estimating procedures and training documentation.
• Providing general administrative support to the estimating and accounts teams when required.
• Gain exposure to different stages of the tendering process while working alongside experienced members of the construction team.
