Qualifications

• Construction background with interest in estimating or commercial management.
• Experience or exposure to estimating or commercial work is a plus.
• Ability to read drawings and specifications accurately.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specs and tender docs.
• Assist with material, labour and subcontractor pricing.
• Carry out take-offs and measurements.
• Obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Prepare and submit tenders and quotations.
• Support tender analysis and subcontractor comparisons.
• Identify risks, exclusions and commercial opportunities.
• Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors and the project team.
• Support senior estimators with tender queries and negotiations.
• Maintain pricing and estimating records.

Job description

This is a good opportunity for someone who has some experience within estimating, quantity surveying or construction commercial management and is looking for the next step in their career.
The business has a strong pipeline of work and this role will give the successful candidate the opportunity to work alongside an experienced estimating team, getting involved with projects from the initial enquiry through to tender submission.

The role

You’ll be working closely with the senior estimating and commercial teams, supporting the pricing of projects and developing your estimating experience.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Assisting with material, labour and subcontractor pricing.
• Carrying out take-offs and measurements.
• Obtaining quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Preparing and submitting tenders and quotations.
• Assisting with tender analysis and comparison of subcontractor returns.
• Identifying potential risks, exclusions and commercial opportunities.
• Liaising with suppliers, subcontractors and the wider project team.
• Supporting the senior Estimators with tender queries and negotiations.
• Maintaining accurate pricing and estimating records.

About you

I’m looking for someone who has a construction background and has either started their career in estimating or has gained some commercial experience and wants to move into estimating.
You could currently be working as an:

• Junior / Trainee Estimator
• Assistant Estimator
• Assistant Quantity Surveyor
• Junior Quantity Surveyor
• Commercial Assistant

You’ll need to be comfortable working with numbers, have good attention to detail and be able to understand construction drawings and specifications.
More importantly, I’m looking for someone who is keen to learn, commercially minded and wants to build a career in estimating.
A relevant construction or quantity surveying qualification would be useful, but isn’t essential if you have the right experience and attitude.
