Job summary

Keepmoat is seeking a Junior Data Engineer to join its Data & Insight team in Doncaster. You will help develop, maintain and monitor data pipelines, enabling accurate reporting and business insight across platforms.

You will work with Azure, Microsoft Fabric and other tools, gaining hands-on experience in data modelling, warehousing, and integration while collaborating with BI developers and analysts.

Qualifications

  • At least one year of relevant technical work experience.
  • Strong SQL knowledge and ability to write and troubleshoot queries.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented with problem-solving skills.
  • Translate business requirements into technical data-related tasks.
  • Good communication and documentation skills.
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory / Microsoft Fabric or similar ETL tools.
  • Understanding of data warehousing and data lakehouse concepts.
  • Exposure to Python and Git.
  • Willingness to pursue Microsoft data certifications (e.g., DP-600/DP-700).
  • Willingness to travel to other offices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and support data pipelines that move data into data warehouses, lakehouses and other platforms.
  • Assist with the optimisation of data pipelines to improve performance and reliability.
  • Write, test and maintain SQL queries, scripts and procedures to transform, validate and reconcile data.
  • Support data modelling and schema design activities that underpin reporting and analytics solutions.
  • Carry out data profiling, validation and quality checks, helping resolve data issues.
  • Support cloud-based data engineering activities using Microsoft technologies, including Azure and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Monitor scheduled data processes and integrations, investigating failures and supporting resolutions.
  • Create and maintain clear documentation for data pipelines, processes, controls and procedures.
  • Work closely with BI Developers, Analysts and stakeholders to support trusted reporting and insight solutions.
  • Follow development, testing, deployment and change management best practices.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance data quality and reduce manual effort.

As a Junior Data Engineer, you'll join our Data & Insight team and play a key role in helping the business make data-driven decisions. Working alongside experienced data professionals, you'll support the development, maintenance and monitoring of data solutions that ensure our data is accurate, reliable and accessible for reporting, analytics and business insight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and support data pipelines that move data from source systems into data warehouses, lakehouses and other approved platforms.
  • Assist with the optimisation of data pipelines to improve performance, reliability, scalability and maintainability.
  • Write, test and maintain SQL queries, scripts and procedures to transform, validate and reconcile data.
  • Support data modelling and schema design activities that underpin reporting and analytics solutions.
  • Carry out data profiling, validation and quality checks, helping to identify and resolve data issues.
  • Support cloud-based data engineering activities using Microsoft technologies, including Azure and Microsoft Fabric.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • At least one year of relevant technical work experience, which may include data analysis, data engineering, software development, technical support, reporting or systems-related activity.
  • Good understanding of SQL and relational database concepts, with the ability to write, test and troubleshoot queries.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret business requirements and translate them into technical data-related tasks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document technical processes clearly.
  • Proactive and self‑motivated approach, with the ability to manage priorities and take ownership of assigned tasks.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Informatica or similar ETL/data integration tools.
  • Understanding of data warehousing, data lakehouse concepts, data modelling and Power BI semantic models.
  • Exposure to Python, Git, DevOps practices, source control, testing or deployment methodologies.
  • Microsoft data certifications (such as DP-600 or DP-700), or a willingness to work towards professional certification.
  • Flexibility to travel to other offices or sites when required.

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in Data, Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Mathematics or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Microsoft data-related certifications (e.g. DP-600 or DP-700) are advantageous but not essential.
