Job summary

British Airways is seeking a Junior Cyber Security Engineer to support and improve security capabilities that protect BA and customers worldwide. You will learn from experienced engineers, implement security controls, and contribute to project work across BA's security engineering function.

This hands-on role develops skills in Microsoft security tools, cloud platforms, and scripting while collaborating with BA colleagues globally to enable secure operations. Training and growth are supported.

Qualifications

• Understanding of foundational cyber security principles and frameworks (e.g. NIST).
• Analytical mindset with a structured approach and good attention to detail.
• Clear communicator, able to explain complex concepts simply to team members and stakeholders.
• Ability to manage tasks effectively, recognising priorities and supporting the team in achieving objectives.
• Strong eagerness to learn new technologies and develop cyber security skills, including Microsoft Security tools (e.g. Defender, Entra, Sentinel), cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), and scripting/coding (e.g. Terraform, Python, KQL).
• Awareness of other security tools and their uses (e.g. Qualys, Akamai, Valimail).
• Relevant IT or cyber security qualification (Desirable)

Responsibilities

• Implementation and configuration of security tools and capabilities to help mitigate threats to British Airways
• Follow team processes aligned to threat- and risk-led strategy, ensuring tasks contribute to BA's focus on key priorities
• Maintain awareness of attacker techniques and procedures, applying this knowledge to assist with tuning and validating security controls
• Perform regular reviews of the technical security landscape, reporting findings and helping to implement improvements
• Keep up to date with industry trends, sharing insights with the team and contributing to evaluations of new technologies
• Develop an understanding of BA's business functions and priorities, ensuring your work supports organisational needs and objectives
• Working closely with stakeholders, including third party service provider and delivery partners
