Job description

A career without limits

As the nation’s flag carrier, we take great pride in connecting Britain with the world and the world with Britain.

It’s something we’ve been doing for over 100 years, ever since we launched the world’s first international scheduled air service between London and Paris.

This originality has been in our blood since day one. It’s the spirit we share with the people that fly with us, our partners, and our colleagues.

So, whether you are a reassuring voice on the end of a phone, a smile at the door, under a wing keeping the turbines spinning or landing us gently in far-flung places, a job at British Airways is yours to make.

We know great things can happen when you’re inspired to think big and bring your ambition to work every day, which is why, at British Airways the sky is never the limit.

The role: Junior Cyber Security Engineer

As a Junior Cyber Security Engineer, you’ll play a key role in supporting the technical security solutions that keep British Airways and our customers safe from cyber threats. Working closely with BA colleagues across the globe and the BA Cyber Team, you’ll help implement, maintain, and improve security capabilities that align with our business needs and evolving threat landscape. This is a hands‑on role where you’ll learn from experienced engineers, contribute to projects, and develop your skills in modern security technologies and practices. You’ll report to the Cyber Security Engineering Manager and be part of a collaborative team committed to protecting our airline and enabling secure operations worldwide.

What you’ll do:
  • Implementation and configuration of security tools and capabilities to help mitigate threats to British Airways
  • Follow team processes aligned to threat- and risk‑led strategy, ensuring tasks contribute to BA’s focus on key priorities
  • Maintain awareness of attacker techniques and procedures, applying this knowledge to assist with tuning and validating security controls
  • Perform regular reviews of the technical security landscape, reporting findings and helping to implement improvements
  • Keep up to date with industry trends, sharing insights with the team and contributing to evaluations of new technologies
  • Develop an understanding of BA’s business functions and priorities, ensuring your work supports organisational needs and objectives
  • Working closely with stakeholders, including third party service provider and delivery partners
What you’ll bring to British Airways:
  • Understanding of foundational cyber security principles and frameworks (e.g. NIST)
  • Analytical mindset with a structured approach and good attention to detail
  • Clear communicator, able to explain complex concepts simply to team members and stakeholders
  • Ability to manage tasks effectively, recognising priorities and supporting the team in achieving objectives
  • Strong eagerness to learn new technologies and develop cyber security skills, including Microsoft Security tools (e.g. Defender, Entra, Sentinel), cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), and scripting/coding (e.g. Terraform, Python, KQL) — product‑specific training provided
  • Awareness of other security tools and their uses (e.g. Qualys, Akamai, Valimail)
  • Relevant IT or cyber security qualification (Desirable)
What we offer:

We believe that all the people who work with us should feel valued for the part they play. It’s one of the reasons our rewards go far beyond a competitive salary.

From the day you join us, you’ll get access to brilliant staff travel benefits including unlimited basic and premium standby tickets on British Airways flights. You’ll also receive up to 30 discounted ‘Hotline’ airfares per year for yourself, friends, and family.

At British Airways you’ll have the chance to take on new challenges and move forward in a way that feels right for you. We encourage all those who work for us to consider opportunities right across our business to help you develop and progress.

We never stand still, and we don’t expect our people to either.
