As a Junior Compliance Officer, you will play a supporting role in the company's compliance function, assisting with customer onboarding, data accuracy, and administrative duties relating to regulatory compliance. This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the early stages of their career, with a keen interest in compliance, risk management, or financial crime prevention. You will be fully trained and supported by the Senior Compliance Officer and MLRO to develop your knowledge of UK regulatory requirements and gain hands-on experience within a growing and regulated business.
Please note: this is a full time, permanent, office based role from our Birmingham head office. This role does not qualify for visa sponsorship, all applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
Principal Responsibilities And Accountabilities
Customer Onboarding & Support
- Assist with conducting customer due diligence (CDD) checks for individual and business clients.
- Support the collection and verification of identification documents.
- Ensure customer records are accurately maintained and filed in line with data protection regulations.
Compliance Administration
- Maintain accurate logs and documentation for compliance checks and outcomes.
- Assist with preparing internal reports and compliance monitoring documentation.
- Ensure the timely completion of follow-up actions and outstanding information requests.
Monitoring & Escalation
- Review basic customer activity for anomalies or missing documentation.
- Flag potentially suspicious activity to the Senior Compliance Officer.
- Help monitor inboxes for incoming customer documentation and respond to routine queries.
Learning & Development
- Actively participate in training sessions and one-to-one coaching.
- Develop understanding of relevant legislation including AML, KYC, GDPR and FCA obligations.
- Stay updated on industry changes and internal policies.
Data Accuracy & Documentation
- Ensure all compliance records are recorded accurately and stored securely.
- Support internal audits or regulatory requests with complete and timely documentation.
Additional Responsibilities
- Industry knowledge: Maintain and develop in-depth understanding of the precious metals industry, company product offering, and evolving market trends to support strategic objectives and provide high-quality client advice.
- Team Support: Proactively cover and support colleagues' responsibilities during periods of absence, ensuring continuity of service and team operations.
- Other Duties: Undertake any other reasonable tasks or duties within your skill and capability as required by management in line with the needs of the business.
Person Specification
Qualifications And Training
- At least 5 years of work experience is required; experience of working in a customer-facing role would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of GDPR and data protection principles.
- Relevant certification in Financial Crime Compliance (e.g., ICA, ACAMS), or willingness to work toward this is desirable.
- Experience working within a regulated (FCA, PRA, SRA, etc.) business is desirable.
- Foreign language skills are desirable.
Technical Skills And Experience
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy in data handling.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Clear communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
