Junior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Emergency Medicine

Main area: Paediatric Emergency Medicine. Grade: MN37. Contract: Fixed term for 6 months (with potential extension to 12 months). Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week. Job ref: 290-TDPA-006.

Site: St. Mary's Hospital, London. Salary: £41,750 - £64,288 pa plus London Weighting + 1A Banding. Closing date: 13/05/2025 23:59.

Job overview

We seek enthusiastic doctors to join the Paediatric Emergency Department at St Mary’s Hospital. Ideal for trainees interested in paediatrics or emergency medicine, aiming to develop confidence and skills in managing acutely ill children. Experience in paediatrics or emergency medicine is desirable but not essential.

St Mary’s Hospital is a busy Major Trauma Centre with comprehensive paediatric specialties, part of the North London Paediatric Specialist Network, and boasts a strong academic and research environment. The department is staffed by dedicated paediatric nurses and led by PEM consultants. Trainees come from paediatric and emergency medicine backgrounds on a 2-tier rota.

Candidates must have at least 1 year of paid NHS experience in the UK; observerships do not qualify.

Main duties

Under supervision, see a variety of presentations, gain experience in emergency care, participate in resuscitations, and undertake quality improvement projects to enhance patient care.

Qualifications
  • GMC registered/licensed Medical Practitioner
  • Membership of Royal College exams (e.g., MRCPCH, MRCEM, MRCP, MRCS)
Research and publications
  • Understanding of research in acute care
  • Peer-reviewed publications
Language
  • English proficiency at IELTS level 7 or above
Audit and QI
  • Participation in Quality Improvement projects
  • Completion and presentation of audits or QI cycles
Clinical skills
  • Basic Life Support, Paediatric Life Support, Advanced Life Support (APLS), Advanced Trauma Skills (ATLS/ETC)
  • Foundation training completed
  • Minimum 1 year NHS experience in the UK
  • Experience in paediatrics or emergency medicine preferred
  • Empathy, communication, and note-writing skills
