Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Junior / Assistant Hydrogeologist in the UK. Based in our hybrid-friendly offices across the UK, you will support contaminated land and hydrogeology projects, developing robust models and contributing to EIA chapters.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team on major infrastructure schemes and gain exposure to international projects while progressing professionally. The role emphasises data handling, field supervision, and delivering quality work within time and

Qualifications

  • Degree in hydrogeology or related field required.
  • MSc or PhD in hydrogeology preferred.
  • Active progression toward Chartered Membership is encouraged.
  • Experience delivering work on-time and within budget in a consultancy is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Provide input to contaminated land and hydrogeological projects, including site investigations and MT/CSM development.
  • Organise and supervise site works and manage H&S requirements.
  • Produce and check groundwater models relating to flow and transport.
  • Prepare Environmental Impact Assessment chapters for projects.
  • Manage own work with senior support to deliver on-time and on-budget.

We have a great opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Junior / Assistant Hydrogeologist specialising in contaminated land and brownfield development and/or engineering hydrogeology or to join our Sustainable Land and Resource Management Practice. Based in either our Exeter, Bristol, Birmingham, Cambridge, Epsom or London office (with flexible hybrid working), you will be part of an award-winning group of hydrogeology and contaminated land experts delivering innovative brownfield solutions to major UK infrastructure projects, across the transportation, energy, buildings and places and water markets. Your Role
  • Provide digital and technical input to projects supporting the delivery of contaminated land and hydrogeological projects, including delivery of site investigations, development of robust conceptual site models, controlled waters risk assessments, numerical modelling and design reports.
  • Organising and supervising site works (including contractors) and the preparation and management of appropriate H&S requirements.
  • Production and checking of complex groundwater models relating to groundwater flow, contamination transport, engineering hydrogeology and civil engineering challenges.
  • Preparation of relevant Environmental Impact Assessment chapters for a wide range of projects.
  • Management of own work including supporting senior management to ensure projects are delivered on-time, on budget and to quality and client expectations.
  • Developing own competence and maintain CPD necessary to fulfil the responsibilities of the role, with support from the business on own training and development needs.
About You
  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering or science subject (e.g. hydrogeology, geology, chemistry, environmental science).
  • MSc or PhD in hydrogeology or related subject is preferable.
  • Actively working towards Chartered Membership of relevant professional body.
  • Relevant post‑graduate experience (ideally within a consultancy environment), with a track record in delivering work on‑time, on budget and to quality and client expectations.
  • Demonstratable understanding of land contamination/brownfield land/engineering hydrogeology issues (dependant on specialism and interests) including understanding of relevant codes of practice and industry standards.
  • Be a digital innovator: experience of handing large data sets, developing graphic representations of data or finding new digital ways of working.
  • Willingness to travel and undertake site‑based work across the UK.
  • Full UK driving licence.
