Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Junior/Assistant Hydrogeologist to join our Sustainable Land and Resource Management Practice. You will contribute to contaminated land and hydrogeology projects, delivering investigations, CSMs, risk assessments and modelling across major UK infrastructure schemes.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team, gain exposure to leading projects, and develop technical skills through hands-on fieldwork and data analysis while progressing toward Chartered status.

Qualifications

  • Degree in hydrogeology, geology, chemistry or environmental science.
  • Post-graduate experience in consultancy with on-time delivery.
  • Understanding of land contamination and brownfield issues.
  • Willingness to travel and UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide input to contaminated land and hydrogeological projects including site investigations and CSMs.
  • Organise and supervise site works and manage HSE requirements.
  • Produce and check groundwater models related to groundwater flow and contamination transport.
  • Prepare EIA chapters for a range of projects.
  • Manage own work and support senior management to deliver on time and budget.
  • Develop own competencies and CPD with company support.

Your Role
  • Provide digital and technical input to projects supporting the delivery of contaminated land and hydrogeological projects, including delivery of site investigations, development of robust conceptual site models, controlled waters risk assessments, numerical modelling and design reports.
  • Organising and supervising site works (including contractors) and the preparation and management of appropriate H&S requirements.
  • Production and checking of complex groundwater models relating to groundwater flow, contamination transport, engineering hydrogeology and civil engineering challenges.
  • Preparation of relevant Environmental Impact Assessment chapters for a wide range of projects.
  • Management of own work including supporting senior management to ensure projects are delivered on-time, on budget and to quality and client expectations.
  • Developing own competence and maintain CPD necessary to fulfil the responsibilities of the role, with support from the business on own training and development needs.
About You
  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering or science subject (e.g. hydrogeology, geology, chemistry, environmental science).
  • MSc or PhD in hydrogeology or related subject is preferable.
  • Actively working towards Chartered Membership of relevant professional body.
  • Relevant post-graduate experience (ideally within a consultancy environment), with a track record in delivering work on-time, on budget and to quality and client expectations.
  • Demonstratable understanding of land contamination/brownfield land/engineering hydrogeology issues (dependant on specialism and interests) including understanding of relevant codes of practice and industry standards.
  • Be a digital innovator: experience of handing large data sets, developing graphic representations of data or finding new digital ways of working.
  • Willingness to travel and undertake site-based work across the UK.
  • Full UK driving licence.
