ALTEN is seeking a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to support concessions and non-conformance activities on a technically challenging aerospace programme in Gloucester. This role suits a Graduate or Junior Mechanical/Aerospace Engineer seeking specialist experience in aerospace design, manufacturing and product integrity.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience in mechanical/design/concessions or non-conformance engineering.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles.
• Ability to read and interpret 2D drawings, dimensions, and tolerances.
• Knowledge of GD&T and material/manufacturing processes.
• Interest in concessions, non-conformance management and aerospace design engineering.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Review and assess engineering concessions and non-conformances affecting aerospace mechanical and structural components.
• Investigate dimensional deviations, material defects and manufacturing discrepancies.
• Support decisions including use-as-is, rework, repair or rejection/scrap.
• Review drawings, tolerances, specifications and manufacturing information.
• Collaborate with Stress, Materials, Design, Manufacturing and Quality teams to assess acceptability of deviations.
• Prepare engineering justifications, concession reports, deviation requests and NCR documentation.
• Ensure design intent, structural integrity and aerospace requirements are maintained.
• Support root-cause analysis for recurring issues and contribute to corrective actions.
• Provide engineering support during implementation of concessions; maintain traceability in PLM systems.
