Job summary

Sedulo Group in Manchester is seeking a motivated entrant to start their accounting career in the Private Client team. You will learn bookkeeping and VAT for a portfolio of clients, with study support to pursue a professional qualification (AAT typically, route to ACA/ACCA/CTA if desired).

Qualifications

• Must be numerate with a genuine interest in building a long-term career in accountancy.
• Partway through AAT or looking to start this qualification.
• Strong numeracy and attention to detail.
• Good organisational skills and willingness to learn.
• Confident and personable communicator who can pick up the phone after training.
• Comfort with or willingness to learn cloud-based software and apps, most clients work digitally.

Responsibilities

• Learning to post customer and supplier invoices using Dext and Xero.
• Reconciling bank accounts with full training and support.
• Learning to prepare and submit VAT returns under supervision.
• Reconciling supplier and customer ledgers and discussing with clients as confidence grows.
• Preparing payment runs for client approval.
• Posting monthly journals such as wages journals.
• Responding to client queries and developing communication skills.
• Supporting other departments where necessary.
• Additional bookkeeping duties as necessary.

Job description

We are looking for someone at the very start of their accountancy career to join our Private Client department, working across an exciting client base that ranges from high-net-worth individuals and families to media personalities and professional sportspeople. You don’t need prior experience, you need to be numerate, organised, and genuinely interested in a long-term career in accountancy. You’ll start by learning bookkeeping and VAT for a portfolio of clients, and as you build confidence and knowledge, you’ll progress towards accounts preparation, with study support to work towards a professional qualification (AAT is the typical starting point, with a route on to ACA, ACCA, or CTA for those who want to go further). This is a genuine first step on a career path within the team, not a standalone job.

A typical day will look like:

• Learning to post customer and supplier invoices, using software such as Dext and Xero
• Reconciling bank accounts, with full training and support
• Learning to prepare and submit VAT returns under supervision
• Reconciling supplier and customer ledgers and discussing these with clients as your confidence grows
