Job summary

King Edward VII's Hospital in London is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join the Finance team. You will support month-end close, journals, reconciliations, VAT, audits and process improvements, gaining exposure to financial reporting and controls.

This hybrid role offers 3 days in the office, with strong development potential for someone early in their finance career pursuing AAT/ACCA/CIMA, in a supportive healthcare environment.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a finance or accounting role is essential.
• Experience studying towards AAT, ACCA, CIMA or an equivalent professional qualification is required, please ensure this is included on your application
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Good understanding of accounting principles and double-entry bookkeeping.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with financial data.
• Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
• A proactive approach with the confidence to ask questions and seek solutions.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
• A collaborative mindset and willingness to support colleagues across the wider Finance team.

Responsibilities

• Support month-end close activities and assist with delivering accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare accounting journals, including accruals and prepayments.
• Assist with maintaining accounting records and supporting documentation.
• Raise purchase orders on behalf of the Finance team.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and investigate any reconciling items.
• Complete daily bank reconciliations and support cash control activities.
• Support VAT return preparation and related activities.
• Provide cover for key fixed asset and capital expenditure activities where required.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and supporting evidence.
• Maintain finance process documentation and support governance requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting and efficiency across the Finance function.
• Actively participate in learning and development opportunities to build technical knowledge and professional expertise
