Job summary

King Edward VII's Hospital in London is hiring an Assistant Accountant to join the Finance team. This full-time, hybrid role offers exposure to month-end, reconciliations, VAT, and audit support as you develop in accounting.

Ideal for someone early in their finance career pursuing a professional qualification, with strong Excel skills and meticulous attention to detail. 37.5 hours, salary up to £38,000 per annum, with in-office collaboration three days a week.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a finance or accounting role is essential.
  • Studying towards a professional qualification (AAT/ACCA/CIMA) and include in application.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with solid double-entry bookkeeping understanding.
  • Proficient Excel and comfortable handling financial data.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Support month-end close activities and assist with accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare journals, including accruals and prepayments.
  • Maintain accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Raise purchase orders for the Finance team.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and investigate reconciling items.
  • Complete daily bank reconciliations and support cash control.
  • Support VAT return preparation and related activities.
  • Provide cover for fixed asset and capital expenditure activities.
  • Assist audits by preparing schedules and evidence.
  • Maintain finance process documentation and governance compliance.
  • Identify process improvements for reporting and efficiency.
  • Engage in learning opportunities to build technical knowledge.

We're looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team at King Edward VII's Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is early in their finance career and keen to build technical accounting expertise within a supportive and collaborative environment.

As an Assistant Accountant, you'll support key financial processes that help ensure accurate reporting, strong financial controls and effective decision-making across the business. You'll gain valuable exposure to month-end activities, reconciliations, audit support, VAT processes, financial reporting and continuous improvement initiatives, all while developing your professional accounting knowledge.

This role would suit someone who is curious, motivated to learn and working towards a professional accounting qualification, with aspirations to develop a long-term career in finance.

How You’ll Help Us Make Health Happen

Key Skills/Qualifications Required For This Role
  • Previous experience in a finance or accounting role is essential
  • Experience studying towards AAT, ACCA, CIMA or an equivalent professional qualification is required, please ensure this is included on your application
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Good understanding of accounting principles and double-entry bookkeeping.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with financial data.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • A proactive approach with the confidence to ask questions and seek solutions.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to support colleagues across the wider Finance team.

Experience within healthcare, regulated environments or using NetSuite would be advantageous but is not essential.
