Journalist

Location: Fulham, London
Working Pattern: Hybrid, 3 days per week in the office
Salary: £38,000 + 10% performance-related bonus (£41,000 OTE)
Experience: 2+ years

The Opportunity

Morson Edge are recruiting on behalf of an established and growing organisation operating within the defence and international affairs sector, who are looking for an experienced Journalist to join their editorial team.

This is an opportunity for a journalist who knows how to find a story, write engaging news content and turn complex or technical subject matter into something that a professional audience genuinely wants to read.

You don’t need to be a defence specialist. We’re looking for strong journalistic experience first and foremost. If you have a proven track record of writing news and long‑form features, interviewing interesting people and creating compelling B2B content, we’d like to hear from you.

You’ll joining an established editorial team and working across a growing digital platform, producing content that reaches a highly engaged professional audience.

What You’ll Be Doing

As Journalist, you’ll be responsible for producing a regular flow of high-quality editorial content, including:

  • Writing approximately four news stories per week, alongside longer‑form editorial content.

  • Researching, developing and writing engaging long‑form features.

  • Conducting interviews with senior figures, subject matter experts and industry leaders.

  • Reporting on developments across defence, international affairs, government budgets and strategy.

  • Exploring emerging areas including AI, technology and innovation.

  • Attending industry events and travelling to meet sources, interview key figures and report on stories.

  • Building relationships with SMEs, businesses, innovators and senior stakeholders.

  • Creating written content for websites and newsletters.

  • Contributing to video content and short‑form video reels produced around events and industry activity.

  • Finding the interesting story within complex or technical subject matter and making it accessible and engaging for a B2B audience.

About You

We’re looking for an established journalist with at least two years’ experience and a portfolio that demonstrates strong news and feature writing.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Proven experience writing regular news articles.

  • Strong long‑form feature writing experience.

  • Experience interviewing people and developing those conversations into compelling stories.

  • Experience writing for a B2B or professional audience.

  • Excellent research, writing and editing skills.

  • Strong news judgement and the ability to identify a good story.

  • The ability to make technical, specialist or potentially niche subjects engaging for readers.

  • A genuine interest in defence, international affairs, geopolitics, technology or related areas.

  • Confidence speaking with senior executives, subject matter experts and industry leaders.

  • The curiosity and initiative to develop your own stories and sources.

  • The flexibility and enthusiasm to travel regularly for events and interviews.

  • Experience working within an established company or editorial team, rather than exclusively as a freelance journalist.

Defence Experience Isn’t Essential

You don’t need to have worked in the defence industry before.

Our client is looking for someone with strong journalism credentials rather than a specific defence background. Industry knowledge can be developed. The ability to write great stories, ask insightful questions and engage a professional audience is what really matters.

We’re particularly interested in journalists who can demonstrate a genuine interest in the wider world, whether that’s international affairs, geopolitics, technology, innovation or global business, and who can bring that curiosity into their work.

What’s On Offer?

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an established editorial team in a high‑visibility role where you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Interview and build relationships with influential industry figures.

  • Attend major industry events and travel as part of the role.

  • Report on significant developments across defence, international affairs and emerging technology.

  • Develop your profile and network within a specialist B2B sector.

  • Work across written, digital, newsletter and event‑led content.

  • Play a key role in shaping content for an established and growing digital platform.

Salary: £38,000 + 10% performance-related bonus (£41,000 OTE).

  • A comprehensive benefits package is also available.
