Job summary

North Yorkshire Councils is seeking a skilled Joiner for a full-time mobile role within the Housing Standards Team, carrying out essential repairs in social housing stock to meet Decent Homes standards.

The role is based on a 37-hour week (Mon–Fri) with a council vehicle provided. You’ll perform day-to-day repairs, maintain records, and comply with Health & Safety regulations while working across tenanted properties.

We are currently looking for dedicated Joiners to join our Housing Standards Team working within the areas of Maintenance and Improvement across the county.

About the Housing Standards Maintenance Team

We are responsible for ensuring the Councils social housing portfolio of circa 8,400 dwellings is maintained to meet all current statutory, regulatory, and legislative standards.

The Role

The core focus of this role is to carry out essential repairs and maintenance works on social housing stock to ensure they meet the Decent Housing Standards, complying with current regulatory standards and timescales.

This is a customer focused mobile role completing day to day repairs/maintenance in our tenanted properties. All our trades operate autonomously using mobile technology to receive all their works.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out joinery and any associated repairs within our Housing stock
• Maintain accurate records of work completed and equipment used
• Adhere to Health and Safety standards and safe working practices
• Participate in professional, mandatory and skills based training
• Carry out maintenance and joinery work and repairs in associated trades

The role will come with a Council vehicle, you will be responsible for carrying out routine vehicle safety checks as required and must ensure compliance with requirements relating to vehicle use and maintenance.

What You’ll Bring

• Relevant qualifications and experience in domestic joinery operations
• Experience using materials, tools and machinery used in the repair and maintenance of your duties
• A strong understanding of Health & Safety and Building Regulations
• Effective communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with customers\
• Good working knowledge of other trades associated with the primary area of experience
• Availability to participate in an out-of-hours emergency service on a rota basis
