Job summary

North Yorkshire Council is seeking a skilled Joiner to join the Housing Standards Construction Team in Harrogate. You will carry out major improvements, adaptations and new builds on the council's social housing stock, most properties being untenanted.

Applicants should have relevant qualifications with all aspects of construction, including 1st and 2nd fix Joinery, and a strong understanding of Health & Safety and Building Regulations. Availability for out-of-hours emergency rota.

We are currently looking for dedicated Joiners to join our Housing Standards Construction Team. This team is focused on maintenance, major improvements and new builds across the county, ensuring that our housing stock remains in excellent condition.

About the Housing Standards Construction Team

Our team is responsible for maintaining, adapting and new construction of properties for the Council’s social housing portfolio. We ensure these homes meet current statutory, regulatory, and legislative standards, providing safe and high-quality living conditions for tenants.

The Role

As a Joiner within our Housing Standards Construction team, your core responsibility will be to carry out major improvements, adaptations and work on new builds. The majority of the properties you will work on will be untenanted.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform domestic joinery and associated repairs
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed and equipment used
  • Adhere to Health and Safety standards and safe working practices
  • Participate in mandatory training and skills development
  • Carry out repairs in other associated trades, such as plumbing

You will be provided with a vehicle and will be responsible for performing daily safety checks and ensuring compliance with vehicle maintenance requirements.

What You’ll Bring
  • Relevant qualifications and experience with all aspects of construction work including 1stand 2ndfix Joinery
  • A strong understanding of Health & Safety and Building Regulations
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with customers
  • Knowledge of other trades (eg plumbing) would be advantageous
  • Availability to participate in an out-of-hours emergency service on a rota basis
