Job summary

Sovereign & Bale in Wakefield is seeking a proactive Job Coach to help young people with learning difficulties or disabilities move into meaningful employment through our Supported Internship programme. Based in Wakefield with travel across Yorkshire when needed, you will support interns, business partners and families to secure placements and paid work.

The role requires warmth, excellent communication and IT skills, and a willingness to complete Level 3 Supported Employment qualification.

Qualifications

• Willingness to complete Level 3 Supported Employment qualification.
• Experience supporting individuals with SEND into employment.
• Strong interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills.
• Confident in using IT tools and managing caseloads.
• Willingness to undertake Enhanced DBS check.

Responsibilities

• Support interns on Supported Internships to progress in their work placements and secure paid employment.
• Provide training and support for business partners and families.
• Offer individualised support for interns at their work placements, including job coaching and mentoring.
• Identify job placements and assess any need for assistive technology.
• Develop professional relationships with parents and carers.
• Work with placement managers to provide disability awareness training.
• Create a safe, welcoming learning environment and ensure services are effective.
• Meet regularly with managers and mentors to discuss progress and opportunities.
• Adhere to safeguarding standards and DBS compliance.

The Role

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. To support interns on Supported Internships to progress in their work placements and make successful transitions into paid employment. To provide training and support for business partners and families, to ensure success during the workplace placements and to seek out job opportunities both within and outside of the host employers
2. Provide individualised support for interns at their work placement or employment. This will include job coaching, mentoring, identifying job placements, identifying any need for assistive technology, etc.
3. Utilise a variety of support methods and resources appropriate to the needs of the interns
4. Develop professional relationships with parents/ carers to support interns to complete their placements
5. Work with work placement managers and employees to provide training around disability awareness
6. Help to create a safe and welcoming learning environment, ensuring that the services delivered to interns are effective and safe
7. Develop a clear understanding of the nature of each intern's learning difficulties and or social/emotional needs and take steps to address these needs
8. Meet regularly with placement managers and mentors to discuss the intern’s strengths and challenges, any issues, progress, identify new potential placement opportunities and source employment vacancies etc
9. Participate in decision making processes to identify and implement training strategies within employer placements
10. Adhere to and promote the standards of the host business with the interns in order to promote job productivity and efficiency
11. Recognise and act on any issues concerning the safety and welfare of the interns
12. Provide training to interns in the areas such personal hygiene, communication skills, interviewing skills and appropriate behaviour in the workplace
13. Plan events such as induction, information nights/open days and graduation celebrations
14. Communicate with other job coaches/tutors, employers, family members and agency partners including local authority and SEND Advisers
15. Accurately complete all required job coaching paperwork
16. Apply for Access to Work funding on behalf of the interns
17. Provide basic information about benefits, work related expenses etc
18. Be knowledgeable about current labour market trends, employment opportunities and initiatives in education
19. Work with other team members to provide internal and external marketing materials such as newsletter articles, website information, community presentations, social media updates
